Shadows Guide: How to Get Shadows, Arise Chances & Ranks

You get shadows in Anime Astral Simulator from Gates in Solo City (World 8). Inside a Gate you fight waves of mobs; when a mob is ready to be arisen, you get 3 chances to arise it into a shadow. If all three fail, that mob is gone and you wait for the next one. The official Trello lists the stat bonus of each shadow rank (C 25%, B 50%, A 75%, S 100%, SS+ 150%) but says the arise chances are "unknown right now", so nobody outside the dev team has confirmed drop rates. The newest shadow, Beru, only drops in the Rank A Portal added in Update 6, and the +1 Shadow Equip gamepass lets you equip one extra shadow at a time.

Solo City is the Solo Leveling world. Its card on the Trello lists four systems: Hunter Class Gacha, Mana Progression, the Gates gamemode ("Contains Shadows") and the Leveling Skill Tree. You need to have unlocked Solo City through the normal world progression first; see all worlds for the order and the pet multipliers of each world.
Once you are in Solo City, look for the Gate teleport icon. Since Update 6, clicking it (or confirming the popup) sends you straight inside the Gate instead of stopping at a lobby.
How arising works
Gates run in waves. Mobs inside a Gate come in three types, which the Tusk Neck Skull accessory card names as Normal Mob, Mini Boss and Boss (Arise Boss). When a mob is ready to be arisen you press arise and roll for a shadow. You get exactly three attempts on each mob.
Two Update 6 changes make the loop faster:
- Auto Arise is saved in your data. You no longer have to re-enable it every time you rejoin.
- Waves auto-skip. After every player inside the Gate has used all their arises, the wave skips automatically instead of waiting for the timer.
There is also an Auto Gate setting: pick which Gate you want to join automatically, and the game will leave whatever gamemode you are in, enter the Gate, then resume the gamemode afterwards. This is the same auto-join pattern used by the other game modes.
Portal rank matters
The Update 6 patch notes state: "Solo City Gate: the higher your portal rank, the better your shadow arise rolls. Arise success chance is unchanged." Read that carefully: a higher portal rank does not make the arise succeed more often, it improves what you get when it does succeed. Higher Gate ranks also give more Leveling Tokens for the Leveling Skill Tree.
The Rank A Portal is the highest rank the Trello documents and the only place Beru can be arisen. Lower portal ranks and their names are not documented on the Trello yet.
Shadow rank stats
The Trello Shadow card lists one bonus per rank. It does not say which stat the percentage applies to, so treat it as the shadow's overall boost.

An SS+ shadow is worth six C-rank shadows. Since the arise chance per rank is unknown, the practical advice is simple: keep running the highest portal rank you can clear, because that is the only lever the developers say improves your rolls. Update 6 also "Fixed Shadows percentage not working as intended", so if you saw shadow bonuses not applying before that patch, it was a bug rather than a hidden mechanic.
Which specific shadows exist per rank, beyond Beru in Rank A, is not documented yet.

The +1 Shadow Equip pass is one of the game's 19 gamepasses. Roblox badge data shows the "Gamepass - +1 Shadow Equip" badge has been awarded 79,691 times, against 214,465 for Fast Hatch and 63,160 for Big Storage, so it is a mid-popularity purchase. The price is not documented in our source data. Where it sits against the other passes is on the gamepass tier list; the full list with IDs is on the gamepasses page. The default number of shadow slots without the pass is not documented yet.
Other drops from Gates
Gates are not only for shadows. The Tusk Neck Skull accessory (2x Power / 1.75x Damage) drops from Gate mobs at these rates:

Every Gate rank also pays out Leveling Tokens for the Leveling Skill Tree in Solo City, which starts at 250 tokens for +5% Power, Damage or Yen. A Gate-themed code, GATESNOTCLOSINGANYMORE (200 F2P Tickets plus five Tier II Potions), was released after a Gate bug, but it is not on IGN's current working list, so treat it as expired; the codes that still work are on the codes page.
